If you are thinking about getting divorced because you believe your spouse is cheating on you, then you may want to get your facts straight first.  This will keep you from making a big mistake.  However, if the infidelity and divorce are your idea because you are cheating, then things are a little bit different.

You need to understand each situation so that you can have an idea of what to expect when you go through the divorce.  If you are the one cheating things may be very difficult for your spouse, but if you are the one being cheated on you don't want to over react.  Obviously there are problems and probably have been for quite some time.

What to do if the Infidelity and Divorce are Your Idea

When you are the one cheating and you need to know how to go through the divorce, then you need to expect your spouse to react.  You should expect a bit of irrational behavior, but even in a situation of infidelity and divorce there is still a line.  If you know it is over you need to leave the home as soon as possible.

Make sure you don't go live with the person you are cheating on your spouse with because this can cause other problems and give your spouse more leverage in the divorce.  You need to make sure you go stay with family or someone you trust.  Then, get a lawyer for your divorce and move on with the process.  The sooner you get things started the better off you will be.  

It may take a few months to complete the divorce as many states have a cooling off or waiting period.  Plus if there are children involved there are custody agreements and other things that must happen.  Understand that it may take a good amount of time to go through the divorce and this means you have to be careful with how you act during this time.

Take the advice of your lawyer even if you don't like it and it will leads you to the freedom from your spouse that you desire.  Make sure you are very careful not to go against the advice of your attorney because they do know what is best when dealing with infidelity and divorce.  

What if your Spouse is Responsible for the Infidelity and Divorce?

If you are on the other side of things you have probably known your spouse was cheating for a while.  You need to know this is normal and denying the cheating is not going to make it go away.  Facing the infidelity and admitting your spouse wants a divorce is the first step in making sure you get through this part of things without too much damage.

At this point it may not be possible to even think about saving your marriage as sad as that may seem.  You have to understand if your spouse wants a divorce you cannot keep them from getting it.  Sure you can make it take longer by not signing the papers, but eventually a judge will sign off on the divorce regardless of whether or not you want it.

Infidelity is a big issue and is one of the major causes of the divorce in the world today.  It is sad that we cannot stay faithful to each other, but it does happen.  When you know it is necessary to get divorced make sure you understand everything about infidelity and divorce possible.
